Which diameter rope should I choose for my home net?

For a horizontal home net, we recommended precut Ø 5 mm ropes for point-by-point lacing or Ø 10 mm rope for criss cross lacing. These ropes are available in a wide range of colors.
For guardrail vertical nets, you can use a Ø 5 mm diameter rope, sold by the meter, to create triangular lacing or to attach the net directly to the frame (without fasteners).

How do I lace my net?

A number of video tutorials are available on our LOFTNETS YouTube channel. With every order, you will also receive a PDF installation manual by email. This detailed manual includes diagrams and photos showing how to tie start and end knots in your lacing. These are simple sailing knots anyone will be able to tie. Ropes are tensioned manually. No tensioner or tools are required.

I don’t know how much rope I need for my custom project…

Whether you are ordering rope to tension a horizontal or a vertical net, the quantity is automatically calculated in our online configurator. For criss cross lacing for a custom-made horizontal net, our calculations will be based on two equal-sized ropes with a small margin for knots and net tensioning. For point-by-point lacing, the number of strands you need will match the number of fasteners.

If you want to tension your vertical net, the quantity calculated automatically in our online configurator tool will enable you to use triangular lacing or to lace your net directly to the frame, if, for example, your structure is composed of metal tubes.

What rope and lacing should I use for my catamaran or trimaran trampoline?

There are four different types of lacing for three diameters of rope. For point-by-point lacing and triangular point-by-point lacing, we recommend a Ø 4 mm rope. For triangular and simple lacing, we recommend a Ø 6 mm rope (also available in Dyneema®). You can also opt for a larger diameter, such as Ø 8 mm.
All these ropes are available from our website in a range of colors, and sold by the linear meter. If you have any doubts, please do not hesitate to email us your questions or to give us a call.

What sort of maintenance does my tension rope require?

Like our nets, our tension ropes are made from a highly robust textile composed of multi-strand polyester and are resistant to harsh environments (storms, salt, humidity, heat, cold, etc.). For specific areas of dirt, simply use a sponge and a natural product such as soft soap to clean off the dirt. You can also wash the entire rope. Simply remove the rope from your net and submerge it in a bucket of cold or lukewarm water with soft soap. You can also machine-wash your rope in a cold wash or at a maximum of 30°C, without a spin cycle. It should then be left outside to dry.

How long will ropes last?

Also known as ‘halyards’, LOFTNETS ropes are designed based on sailing conditions. This means they are highly resistant to load-bearing and extreme weather, and have a very long lifespan, whether they are installed indoors or outdoors. A simple visual inspection can be carried out periodically to ensure they are still in a good condition.

Robust ropes for maximum durability

Tensioning ropes can be used to tighten your nets, by attaching them to your frame using fasteners. Made from ultra-resistant 8- or 16-strand polyester with a low stretch factor and UV-light treatment, our tension ropes offer a long life, even in extreme conditions, such as cold weather and storms, making them ideal for outdoor use.

As with our fasteners, tension ropes undergo a rigorous testing process approved by a certified and independent inspection body. Our 5 mm diameter rope, for example, guarantees resistance of 500 daN (see full technical specifications for each rope in our product data sheets above).

For home projects, we recommend specific rope diameters for each type of lacing:

• Point-by-point lacing is a system for hanging your net using hanging points. It offers several single tension points and ensures your net is installed close to the frame. For this type of lacing, LOFTNETS recommends a 5 mm diameter rope.
• With criss-cross lacing, two ropes pass between the net and fasteners. For this type of lacing, LOFTNETS recommends a 10 mm diameter rope.

Both of these lacing systems have undergone a resistance testing process approved by a certified and independent inspection body, and offer the same levels of security.
