Sitting in a hanging net can make some people nervous, which is why safety is at the forefront of our minds.
Above all, a home net is a complete system composed of a solid wooden, metal or concrete frame, and appropriate fasteners for your materials and tension ropes, for point-by-point or criss cross lacing.
There are still no official standards in place for mezzanine nets, however, which is why the values expressed here are the result of an audit completed for LOFTNETS by a certified assessment body.
Understanding the different concepts related to loads and home net
Two concepts explain a net’s load-bearing abilities.
The first is the safe working load, which is the maximum threshold for normal use and maximum recommended weight.
The second can be thought of as the test value and threshold for extreme use, up to breaking point. Take the example of an elevator. The maximum load stated is not the elevator’s breaking load. Even if the maximum weight permitted is stated as 400 kg maximum, the malfunction or breaking weight will be much higher.
It is important to distinguish between these two pieces of information to understand how home nets can be used and their limitations.

Since 2020, LOFTNETS has carried out a series of trials with an independent certified assessment body. This audit enabled us to set the safe working load for our home nets at 120 kg/m² or 1 ton per 8 m² net minimum, the equivalent of approximately ten 100 kg adults.
As the entire home net system has beenapproved by an inspection office, the type of mesh, lacing and fasteners you choose will have no impact on the safe working load.
