Hemp netting is appreciated for its natural appearance and durability. However, when it comes to horizontal use for a home net, they do have some limitations.
× Hemp home nets are not suitable for horizontal and outdoor use
Although hemp fibers are strong and durable, they tend to stretch over time. When a hemp net is subjected to a horizontal load, such as the weight of a person or objects, it can distend and lose its original properties. This can cause the net to sag, reducing its comfort and, above all, jeopardizing the safety of its occupants.
Hemp is also sensitive to humidity. When exposed to damp conditions or prolonged rain, hemp fibers can absorb water and expand, exacerbating the problem of net sagging. Moisture can also weaken the strength of hemp, making the net less reliable and potentially dangerous. It is therefore not possible to use hemp netting outdoors.
Hemp, a natural material requiring maintenance
Another aspect to consider is the need for regular maintenance of hemp netting. As previously mentioned, hemp is sensitive to moisture, which can encourage the development of mold and mildew. To maintain the net's durability and hygiene, it needs to be cleaned and dried regularly, unlike polyester netting, which is easier to maintain and requires less care.
However, hemp netting is widely used in vertical applications, such as supporting climbing plants or hanging decoration. In these cases, the weight is mainly directed downwards, which reduces the problems of sagging and stretching of the hemp fibers. In addition, exposure to moisture is generally less of a concern in these applications.

When it comes to choosing a home net suitable for horizontal use, there are other materials that offer superior performance. For example, polypropylene or polyester nets are specially designed for horizontal use, offering greater strength and stability. These synthetic materials are often treated to make them resistant to moisture, mildew and UV rays, prolonging their lifespan and minimizing maintenance problems.
Hemp netting does not have the necessary characteristics to support the permissible loads of home netting. Although versatile, environmentally friendly and durable, they are not suitable for horizontal use as netting.
