Finishes for LOFTNETS nets : Which finish for which use?

To adapt to the many different ways you may intend on using your net, LOFTNETS offers a wide variety of custom-made finishes to strengthen and prolong its lifespan.

Tensioned residential nets offer a wide range of applications, combining safety, comfort, and modern design for living spaces.

When installed vertically, the net serves as an indoor safety barrier, securing staircases or mezzanines while maintaining an elegant and contemporary aesthetic. Outdoors, it provides a stylish solution to reinforce railings or create protective barriers for elevated terraces, ensuring both visual lightness and reliable safety.

When used horizontally, residential nets extend mezzanine spaces without enclosing them with traditional railings. They also create an original and playful relaxation and play area for families, whether positioned above a living room or in a child’s bedroom, adding a unique architectural feature to the home.

To accommodate these diverse uses and budget requirements, LOFTNETS offers a wide selection of custom finishing options. Borders designed for vertical guardrail applications are crafted thinner than those intended for horizontal installations, ensuring optimal performance and tailored design for every project. Our expert seamstresses devote exceptional attention to crafting the borders of our nets, all manufactured in our Bordeaux workshop

Finishes for horizontal home nets

Bolt rope

This type of border, also referred to as a “seam” or “single bolt rope”, is obligatory for all horizontal nets. As the net is designed to hold several people (maximum recommended weight: up to 1 ton), the edge of the net is securely reinforced with a rope. It adds resistance, pleasant aesthetics, and security to your custom-made net.

Composed of an ultra-resistant Ø10 mm rope made from multi-strand polyester that has been stitched and reinforced at our workshop, it passes between the closest meshes to the net’s edge, then it is sewn by an overlock machine.

The bolt rope will go all the way around your net, whatever its shape, including on special cutouts.

Double bolt rope

This border is reinforced to extend the lifespan of your net. The first stitched-in bolt rope is accompanied by a free-moving rope, added by hand and threaded through each mesh by our experienced designers. This second free bolt rope protects the seams of the overlocked bolt rope from friction caused by the lacing rope. The lacing rope will exert tension on this second bolt rope rather than directly on the seams of the bolt rope.

Another advantage is that it allows the net to be tensioned closer to the edge, resulting in better net tension. This option is strongly recommended for any horizontal nets that will be used intensively, for public use, or for sailing.
LOFTNETS offers this finish for all horizontal nets, from 15 mm to 45 mm meshes, adapting the diameter to the size of the mesh.

Double net

The double net meets the need for reassurance for people who might be hesitant to walk or stand on a suspended net.
Two independent nets are installed one above the other, each with a serged edge for greater durability. The double bolt rope option can also be chosen for each of the two nets.

Finishes for horizontal technical canvases

PVC strip with eyelets

This finish is used on our technical materials, also referred to as “coated canvases”, our TEC600 and TEC400. Eyelets are usually affixed to a 100 mm heat-sealed PVC strip, but this spacing can be adjusted based on how your custom-made canvas will be used. The tension rope can be threaded easily through these eyelets to tension the canvas, whatever its diameter.

Tunnel

A sealed, reinforced strip composed of an outer tube. This finish is primarily found on our technical canvases for catamarans and trimarans. The sleeve will need to be cut during installation to match the spacing between fasteners so they can be linked to the canvas with a rope, with the addition of a rod (not provided).

Finishes for vertical home nets

Thin bolt rope

Thin bolt ropes can be added to a guardrail vertical net with a Ø3 mm rope and are available in a range of colors. It reinforces the border of the vertical net and increases its longevity.

This thin rope allows the net to be attached directly to the fastening using our specially designed shackle jumpers. The shackle jumpers securely closes the fastening and can only be unscrewed using a special tool.

This peripheral rope is used for nets tensioned using lacing with a tension rope of 5 or 10 mm.

No finishing (raw edge)

A net with no finishing is cut to measure, without any additional outer rope or stitching. These nets are made by hand, without the use of a sewing machine. This solution makes it possible to cut the net during installation so it can be adapted to an unusual support or structure. This is ideal, for example, for a vertical net that follows the steps in an irregular-shaped staircase. This is our lowest priced finish.

Tip for cutting your net: use a soldering iron to prevent the bare wire from fraying.
