Payment Terms for Import Customs Duties

Payment Terms for Import Customs Duties following a purchase of LOFTNETS products outside the European Union

I purchased online – why is my shipment subject to import fees and taxes?

Although your goods were ordered online, they remain subject to an import customs clearance procedure, whenever your order is delivered outside the European Union. The calculation of import taxes or customs duties varies depending on:

•   the country of origin, France for products sold on loftnets.com
•   the value of the goods, including shipping costs,
•   the quantity,
•   the customs laws and applicable duties defined by the country of import.
LOFTNETS entrusts the transport of its international orders to the international carrier DHL, except in special cases. It is the responsibility of this carrier to comply with national customs regulations. Customs duties, taxes, and other import-related fees associated with the customs clearance of your goods in your country may therefore be requested from you, in accordance with local legislation. You do not pay any additional shipping charges to DHL.

Who is responsible for payment?

When the goods enter the national territory, the carrier DHL immediately pays all duties and taxes applicable to your shipment to the customs authorities on your behalf, in order to minimize transit time. DHL will promptly notify you via email or SMS, providing, among other things, a link to the secure payment platform.

Please note that the goods will only be delivered to you once you have reimbursed DHL for the duties and taxes paid on your behalf. This process is the same regardless of the carrier handling your delivery.

Important: if taxes are not paid within the specified time frame (between 10 and 15 days, depending on the country of import), the goods may be returned to France or even destroyed.

How do I pay customs fees and taxes?

The carrier’s Duties and Taxes Collection Service may contact you by phone to arrange payment. You may pay your customs charges using one of the following methods:

•   Log in via the secure payment link sent by SMS or EMAIL. New! You no longer need a PIN code to pay your customs fees.

•   Contact DHL customer service in your country (easy to find online by searching “DHL customer service + Country”) and have your parcel number ready.

Note: LOFTNETS generally ships goods under the Incoterms® rule DELIVERED AT PLACE (DAP): this means that the seller delivers the goods and transfers the risks to the buyer when the goods are placed at the buyer’s disposal on the arriving means of transport, ready for unloading at the destination specified in the order.
