Children and home nets

Our entire home net installation system is approved by an independent certified inspection body. Its quality and strength make it a safe place for the whole family.

Due to their height, some parents might worry about children using home nets. This is completely understandable.

But there is no need to worry. LOFTNETS home nets were originally designed over 20 years ago for regular use by catamaran skippers in sometimes very extreme conditions. Their high quality, sturdiness and durability make them a safe and secure solution for inside homes and outdoors, whether you opt for a horizontal or vertical net.

As safety is our priority, in 2020 we also launched a system to ensure our entire home net installation system is secure and approved by an independent certified inspection body.

This means all the technical elements in our nets, materials, manufacturing processes, and installation methods and manuals have been assessed by experts, making LOFTNETS the only company on the market capable of guaranteeing irreproachable quality and maximum security for its home nets.

Our recommendations for children and home nets

Horizontal home nets

For worry-free use of a home net by children, we recommend the smallest meshes in our range, which come in 15 mm (available in black or white) or 20 mm (available in grey). These meshes are relatively tight, making them more comfortable to the touch and for little feet, and less likely to let small objects through.

To allow more light through, opt for a larger mesh, such as the 30 mm. This mesh is just as comfortable, but the upper level will be slightly more visible than a tighter 15 mm or 20 mm mesh.

Our 15 mm and 20 mm mesh nets:

Fasteners and lacing can also be used to maximize safety for very young children. Point-by-point lacing with minimum distances between the net and frame will help reduce empty spaces. Criss cross lacing offers additional security by reducing empty space in the same way as point-by-point lacing.

For even more security, we offer a 15 mm and 30 mm mesh net edge protection kit to cover the space between fasteners and the edge of your net (or boltrope). Kits can be placed directly over lacing using the four shackles provided. A net edge protection kit creates an entry/exit zone for the net ideal for young children.

The space between your frame and the net will never be particularly large (10 cm max once installed) and will be smaller and then non-existent after a few weeks’ use, once you have retightened your home net (learn more about lacing gap in this article).

Guardrail vertical home nets

If you opt for a guardrail vertical net, it will have the same technical characteristics as a horizontal net. Designed for loads of up to 120 kg/m² like our horizontal nets, our guardrail nets prevent dangerous falls.

Even without a handrail, your little ones will be safe thanks to this feature. Make sure the net is pulled taut once attached to the fasteners so it fully fulfils its function.

It is important to check your net regularly (rope tension, mesh condition) as well as the frame (fasteners, supporting structure) so that everyone, young and old, can use the net in complete security.

Home nets; a fun learning area

Once secured, a mezzanine net is a great place for children to play and learn. Nets offer a space to relax, play, read and learn. They can let their imagination and creativity run wild. When it comes to motor skills, nets are also a great way to develop balance and agility.

A home net truly is a great adventure for family and friends!

The characteristics of a home net make it possible to offer both style and security, bringing joy to all the family.
