Which net for which use?

LOFTNETS offers two types of home net: horizontal and vertical nets. Because we specialize in made-to-measure products, we can design any size and shape of net, no matter how complex your needs.

We’ve put together a detailed article on each type of use (horizontal or vertical) to highlight their key characteristics so you can get a quick overall picture at a glance.

Horizontal nets; optimizing unused space

Horizontal nets can be used to make empty space in your home safer, transforming it into a giant hammock, play area, or family chill zone, indoors or outdoors.

Our nets at your home:

Horizontal loft nets are a great compromise and an original way to extend non-existent flooring at a lower price than classic floorboards, and have the added bonus of bringing much more light into your home.

Outside, horizontal nets can be used in the same way as indoors and, because they are designed for use in all weather conditions, can be left in place all year round. Why not install a net next to or even above your pool or at the end of a pontoon so you can enjoy the relaxing sounds of the water? You could also use a net to extend your terrace or create a sunbed in the garden

The possibilities are endless and we’ll be on hand to help you design your personalized project.

Mesh sizes for horizontal use; optimizing light and comfort

For horizontal uses, we recommend braided nets, as these are the most comfortable for lying, sitting, and walking on. The smaller the mesh, the more comfortable. Our 15 mm and 20 mm meshes are ideal for relaxing on, especially for young children.

Indoors, the larger the mesh, the more light will pass through. Our 30 mm mesh offers the perfect combination of light and comfort. A 45 mm mesh allows a maximum amount of light through onto the floor below but will be slightly less comfortable.

The meshes for our horizontal nets come in several colors and are made primarily from LOFTNETS’ exclusive ultra-robust, Marine 3S® polyester material (15 mm, 20 mm, 30 mm). Other materials are also available depending on the mesh style; you can compare their characteristics here.

Vertical nets; secure or separate two different spaces

Vertical nets can be used to secure a stairway or balustrade, and are also an original solution for separating two rooms, for example, in an attic with an unusual shape.

A vertical loft net can also be used to increase safety on the top level of a bunk bed in a children’s bedroom or combined with a horizontal net to make an all-net play area.

Whether you opt for horizontal or vertical use, our nets are designed to hold up in all weather conditions and all climates. This makes our guardrail nets ideal for outdoor uses such as securing a balcony or enclosing a terrace.

Depending on how you want your finished design to look, the mesh or seam can be attached directly to the structure using our shackle jumper, or with a tension rope if you choose a thin bolt rope finish.

As our vertical nets are not designed to hold a person’s weight in the same way as a horizontal net, we nonetheless recommend attaching the net to the structure’s hanging points for optimum safety.

Mesh sizes for vertical use

Several mesh sizes are available for our guardrail nets, ranging from 15 mm to 60 mm, with a choice of braided netting or knotted netting.

Our vertical nets at home, from 15 mm to 60 mm:

15mm to 45 mm braided netting will offer slightly less visibility than knotted netting and allows fewer small objects to pass through when used for kids’ play spaces.

50 mm to 60 mm knotted netting is wider and has more of the marine aesthetic many of our customers are looking for. It also allows more light through, making it great for balconies and terraces with less direct sunlight.
