Lots of people are scared of heights and worry about young children hurting themselves. There’s no need to worry, however, as home nets are ultra-robust and have been used safely for many years in the sailing industry.
It is important to know you will be safe when deciding to set up a mezzanine net in your home. In this article, we look at some of the potential concerns you might have and show that horizontal home nets are the ideal solution for filling an empty space and creating a new cosy area in your home without blocking out the light, all completely safely.
Fear of heights
Fear of heights, or vertigo, is a common sensation many people experience. Although it is a feeling many of us are familiar with, it is also one that can be soothed when we feel safe. Safety has always been key for LOFTNETS.
That is why we took the initiative to work with an independent certified assessment office to have our entire installation system approved externally. Our nets are therefore certified for their wear resistance (UV, humidity, rot) and for their safe working load of up to 120 kg per m². This means our nets have been approved for their ability to hold up to 1 ton per net measuring at least 8 m².
Fears about the net’s transparency and the sensation of floating
Other feelings can add to our fear of empty spaces, such as the net’s transparency and the sensation of floating when walking on your net.
When it comes to the net’s transparency, several mesh sizes exist, meaning you can choose a net that allows less light through and is therefore less transparent. Of our most “opaque” nets, we recommend our smallest meshes, in 15 mm or 20 mm.
For our technical canvases, which are different from the traditional mesh used for nets, even tighter meshes are available, as small as 3 mm.
Mastering the transparency effect :
For the sensation of floating, it is important to note that our meshes are highly resistant and kept taut by point-by-point or criss cross lacing. To reduce the sensation of floating, we recommend regularly retensioning your net and using your net lying down for a more natural feel.
Doubts about durability
Worried about the durability of our nets? Here are three reasons there is no need to worry:
- Home nets originated in the sailing sector, meaning their durability and robustness have been thoroughly tried and proven. Initially used on catamarans, these nets are renowned for their resistance to high tension, weight, UV and water. Our nets will keep these characteristics for five to ten years depending on how they are used and what they are made from. LOFTNETS supplies several ocean-racing multihulls.
- The second reason follows on from the first. We have been making catamaran nets with high-performance characteristics across the world for more than 20 years and have always received excellent feedback. Our team of experts work tirelessly every day to ensure the safety and high quality of our nets.
- Finally, thanks to an initiative launched by LOFTNETS in 2020, our team developed its own new technique assessment plan to ensure approval of the entire home nets solution, in order to address the lack of official standard framework for catamaran trampolines and home nets. This makes LOFTNETS the only company on the market capable of guaranteeing irreproachable quality and maximum security for its home nets, and is now taken as a model by many competitors.
Installing a home net
Not much of a handyman? Worried that setting up your net will be a complicated task? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
We provide everything you need to install your net: the rope, with excess length to properly tension the net, fasteners, and zip ties to start the installation. The installation manual and video tutorials on our Youtube channel will also help you set up your net step by step.
Most of our customers install their net themselves. If you would prefer not to, however, we work with a network of artisan fitters in France and abroad. These experienced craftsmen are familiar with our home nets and their specific features. In addition to the net, they will be able to help advise you on and install the frame, a key technical element to be put in place before setting up the net.
Simply get in touch with our advisers and they will be able to put you in contact with someone in your area.
