Can I install a home net in a plasterboard structure?
× No
LOFTNETS’ priority is ensuring our home nets are used safely. For this reason, we do not recommend installing a home net in plasterboard, as it is not robust enough.
✔ However
It is possible to install a home net in plasterboard if is simply covering a metal or wooden structure behind it.
The first scenario applies to walls with a beam or load-bearing wall behind the BA13 plasterboard. If these elements are just behind the BA13 plasterboard, you can install an indoor net using eye screws. These will be deep enough to ensure sufficient hold.
But if the BA13 is hiding a layer of insulation or an empty space of more than 40 mm, and you need to cross this to reach the load-bearing wall or beam, we strongly recommend using another solution. These include fitting a new wooden or steel beam to the plasterboard anchored with threaded rods and chemical sealing. You can then install LOFTNETS fasteners for the net in this visible beam.
If you have any doubts, please contact our team of experts, who will be able to answer all your questions and recommend solutions for safely setting up your net.
Can I install a home net next to a window?
✔ Yes
It is possible to install a home net between three sides and one window, but you will first need to check that the three existing sides are load-bearing.
You will then need to add a wooden or metal beam to the fourth side (the window side). You will be able to install eye screws or eye plates to this new frame if it is made from wood, or fixing shackles and eye bolts if it is made from metal (more information about supporting structures and fasteners).
You can also add a metal tube, installed with a slight gap between it and the window. With this option, there is no need for fasteners, as you will be able to lace the tension rope around the tube.
Can I install a home net with a space for a pipe to pass through?
✔ Yes
Want to install a home net in the middle of your lounge, but there is a chimney pipe or ladder in the way? No problem! LOFTNETS’ custom-made nets can be adapted to any situation.
Simply indicate in our online configurator tool if your shape needs any cut-outs. By checking this box, you can give us more details (number of cut-outs, shape, dimensions, position of nearest corner...) and send us a diagram and photos. We will incorporate them into the manufacture of your net.
To ensure safe installation of your net, you will need to set up a small frame or hoop around the pipe in the material of your choice (wood or metal). This small frame will be used to attach the net and ensure proper tension. Currently LOFTNETS does not offer these types of small frame.
Can I install a home net in a structure with only three sides?
✔ Yes
This is completely possible with LOFTNETS home nets. We look at this particular scenario in detail in this article.
Can I install a home net in brick?
Adding a wooden beam or metal cornerplate attached with chemical sealing is an alternative solution that can be completed with the help of one of LOFTNETS’ partner craftsmen. This material is not included in the LOFTNETS catalogue but can be purchased from most specialist DIY stores. Special care should be taken over the frame and the type of brick.
