Retensioning your home net

Our nets are made from a polyester material specially designed for the sailing sector that has a very low elasticity, thanks to our Marine 3S® mesh. Nonetheless, it is normal to loosen slightly over time, particularly in relation to how it is used.

This can happen after it is used for the first time or after unusually heavy loads are applied to the net.

The importance of a home net’s lacing gap

We leave a 3-10 cm gap (the space that will be filled by the tension rope around the net) to enable this adjustment, which will help extend your net’s lifespan so you can enjoy it for as long as possible.

When first installing your net, the space between the structure and the bolt rope might be maximum 10 cm, depending on the tension applied by the person who completes the installation. This is completely normal and intended, as this gap will shrink with use. We recommend retensioning your net for the first time after approximately one month’s use.

You can next retension your net in response to how much it has been used and the tension you would like to create.

How to retension your home net

Point-by-point lacing

For point-by-point lacing, repeat the steps completed when initially installing your point-by-point lacing, applying more force, without undoing the starting knots.

Retie each lacing point, tightening the end knots one after the other after retensioning, until you have good tension across the entire net.

Double lacing

For a net with double lacing, begin with the starting knot, without undoing it (checking it nonetheless), and re-apply tension by pulling the tensioning rope through the fastener all around the edge of the net up until the end knot.

Then re-adjust the length and re-tighten the end knot. Remember to cut off any surplus rope after this. Repeat the process for the second lacing rope.

After retensioning your net several times, it will get to its maximum elasticity. This means the net will not be able to loosen indefinitely and you will be able to enjoy use of it for many years.
